I didn’t plan to be here.
I was stuck in Mount Isa for eight days after flooding cut me off from the east coast. After a few days of waiting around, I decided to head out and see what was actually out there.
We followed a slow, sketchy 4x4 track and ended up at Rigby Falls.
I couldn’t believe it.
You don’t expect something like this in western Queensland. The recent rain had completely transformed it, the whole system was alive. Seven tiers, stretching hundreds of metres. It was too big to capture all at once without losing something.
So I climbed.
I moved up through the falls, section by section, looking for something that felt right. Eventually I came across this scene, a white gum tree stretching up through the frame, reaching into the waterfall and the red rock around it.
That’s what drew me in.
