The Bay of Fires on Tasmania’s east coast might just be one of my favourite places on Earth to photograph. It’s got this surreal mix pure white sand, turquoise water that glows like something out of a dream, and these wild, lichen-covered boulders that look like they’ve been painted by nature herself. It’s a photographer’s playground but only if the weather plays nice.
And in Tassie… it rarely does.
I’d already been there for a few days, chasing light between wind, rain, and even hail. It felt like the place was testing me. But on my final morning, something shifted. I woke to a quiet stillness. The air was crisp, but calm. And as the first light broke across the coast, it brought a warmth that made everything glow just for a moment. That was the shot.
